Why choose a location in the Netherlands?

The Netherlands has so many great and unique locations. Discover the beautiful waterways in and around its cities, as well as the wonderful Wadden Islands. There’s plenty of choice when it comes to organising an unforgettable proposal in the Netherlands.

21 National Parks

If you like National Parks then you should really visit the Netherlands, as it has 21 of them! It sounds cliché, but the Netherlands is beautiful because it is a country of such diverse landscapes, and the national parks reflect this diversity.

Charming cities

The four largest cities in the Netherlands are Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. Yet the country is also home to delightful cities such as Groningen, Nijmegen and Breda. Breda is a real student city that simply oozes charm and has a unique atmosphere that can only be foud in a handful of cities, while in Maastricht you can indulge in the richness of Limburg cusine, a mixture of French, German and Dutch, as well as a wide variety of beers.

Water, water and more water

In the Netherlands, you don’t have to go far before you find some water. Everywhere you go you’ll find waterways and bridges, plus the country is located on the coast of the North Sea!

6 Unique locations for your marriage proposal in the Netherlands

The Dom Tower in Utrecht

Does seeing your partner leave you feeling sky high? Then why not consider the Dom Tower in Utrecht for your proposal? At 112.5 metres, it’s the tallest church tower in the whole of the Netherlands! That’s worth all the effort alone! We should add that there are 465 steps, so if you can’t manage that, it’s perhaps best to choose one of the following locations.

Bloemendaal aan Zee or National Park Zuid-Kennemerland

This seaside resort is increasingly trend and is one of the most popular in the Netherlands. Here you will find everything you need for a wonderful day at the beach. The highlight of this fun location are definitey the beach pavilions. The beach also regularly plays host to beach parties. Did you know that Bloemendaal aan Zee is often called the Ibiza of the Netherlands?

In addition to the fantastically long beach, there are also a number of entertaining attractions. The seaside resort is not far from the stunning National Park Zuid-Kennemerland, a very special location where you can see fallow deer, Highland catttle  and konik horses roaming freely. Can you picture your proposal in a beautiful national park surrounded by Highland cattle already?

The Staalmeesters Bridge in Amsterdam

We believe Amsterdam to be one of the most romantic cities in Europe. The city has charming canals, flower-decked bridges and charming historic houses. One of those wonderfully decorated bridges is the Staalmeesters Bridge, the famous Amsterdam bridge of love with its very own tradition. Here lovers attach their locks as a symbol of their eternal love, the idea being to throw the key to the lock down into the canal. Please note that the locks are removed by the municipality from time to time. It’s the thought that counts though,

so go early in the morning or late at night to avoid the crowds. This super romantic bridge is the top place to pop that special question to your partner.

The Efteling

Is your partner a fan of fairy tales? Then why not take them to the Efteling, which, in our opinion, is the most magical location in which to plan a marriage proposal! Efteling has so many unique places where you can ask the big question. Perhaps you could plan it in the fairy tale forest among all those fun fairy tale characters such as Little Red Riding Hood or Hansel and Gretel? Or why not make it even more romantic… at Sleeping Beauty’s castle! Did you have something else in mind? Then you can definitely do the marriage proposal on one of the attractions. We recommend a slightly quieter attraction, e.g. Dream Flight instead of the rollercoaster Baron 1898, the former being somewhat more suitable for a potential marriage proposal thanks to the soothing music playing in the background, plus it’s super romantic. At the end of the ride, you’ll get your picture taken. Could that be your time to open the ring box?

On the island of Ameland

Prefer the idea of a marriage proposal in a more private location? Then why not choose one of the Wadden Islands up in Friesland, such as Ameland? From there you can take wonderful day trips across the Wadden Sea, and the island also offers quaint villages, huge beaches, towering dunes and fascinating museums. On Ameland you can really enjoy peace and quiet to organise your marriage proposal. Do you love seals? You could go seal spotting on one of the island’s beaches and during that wonderful moment, why not ask your partner that most important of questions? What do you think?

Amersoyen Castle

Do you love history and castles? And would you like to feel like a real prince or princess for a day by proposing in this unique location? Then plan the proposal in this awe-inspiring medieval castle, which dates from around 1300. Inside there is an imposing great hall that might be the ideal location to pop that special question to the one you love. You can dress up as a real knight and your partner can don a stunning medieval dress. After your unforgettable moment, you can go enjoy a drink in the castle’s café.

Their reaction will immediately appear in the photos and you’ll have another wonderful memento of this unforgettable moment.

Flashmob

Have you got something much bigger in mind? Then maybe a flash mob is the choice for you? This way you get to completely surprise your partner at the most unexpected moment.
