Do you want to ask your partner to marry you in idyllic Geneva, but not quite sure where and how yet? We had a chat with Roza Maierhofer, founder of Faraday Event Deco & Balloons. She let us peek at her portfolio, and is happy to list what she thinks are the best places to propose to your partner in Geneva!

Top 5 proposal locations

1. Boat trip on Lake Geneva

Without doubt, Geneva is known to many for its breathtaking lake. Roza tells: “Boating on Lake Geneva is a wonderful idea during the warmer seasons. There are several local companies that rent out small and larger boats – ones that include a captain and catering, should you so wish.   A boat trip on Lake Geneva is a very romantic setting for your marriage proposal. You’ll also enjoy fantastic views of the impressive Jet d’Eau fountain. Pack a bottle of bubbly and a picnic, to celebrate your good news straight away.”

2. In amongst the vines

In and around Geneva you will also find several well-known vineyards. Roza advises: “For instance, the Château du Crest wine estate, near Jussy, is a real must for wine enthusiasts. Plan your visit there in advance, and if you wish, you can hire the entire estate for just the two of you. An hour from Geneva you’ll also find the magnificent Lavaux wine estate. The Lavaux terraces are situated along Lake Geneva’s northern shore. Often described as the world’s most beautiful wine region, Lavaux boasts breathtaking views across its vineyards. It’s with good reason it is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Surprise your partner during the tasting with your proposal, and make sure you serve Lavaux wines at your wedding!”

3. Restaurant with lake views

Are you planning to pop the question in a restaurant?  Once again, Roza has a top tip: “Visitors to Geneva are bedazzled by the beautiful lake. As such, there are several venues in Geneva, including, for example, Hotel Il Vero and restaurant Le Floris, which offer stunning views of the lake. All in all: the ideal location for a restaurant proposal. Tip: let the restaurant know in advance that you would like to propose to your partner during your meal there. The team will no doubt relish being your ‘partner in crime’…”.

4. Cable car at Mont Salève

Technically speaking, this cable car is located just across the border in France, but Roza thinks it’s an absolute must and says: “You can take the cable car up Mont Salève. Where a magnificent view of the city of Geneva awaits you. Nothing is more romantic than asking your partner to marry you on top of a mountain: you’ll literally be on cloud nine! Tip: think about the best time to take the cable car: if you can catch the sunrise or sunset, you will make this moment even more memorable.

5. Private villa with garden

For those who prefer to celebrate their proposal in intimate style, Roza can help there too: “For guests coming from abroad it can also be fun to rent a private villa, and to retreat there in comfort. Devise a romantic set-up on the villa’s terrace, decorate your suite romantically with rose petals and surprise your loved one with your proposal. It’s highly likely you’ll make it an annual tradition to return to “your” holiday home, wouldn’t you say?! Take a look on Airbnb; you’ll be sure to find a villa that captures your heart and imagination.”
