The Grand Canyon is on pretty much everyone’s bucket list, thanks to its natural beauty – so why not take it one step further and plan a Grand Canyon proposal?!
As the name might suggest, the Grand Canyon is a huge canyon, measuring 277 miles in length and dating back 5 or 6 MILLION years. There’s a reason why the Grand Canyon is widely regarded as one of the world’s seven natural wonders: because it’s totally, completely unique!
Why plan a Grand Canyon proposal
Here are just some of the reasons why you should consider planning a Grand Canyon proposal:
The scenery is unlike anywhere else in the world
The Grand Canyon would be a perfect setting in which to pop the question. The rock, which has been carved away over time, reveals beautiful coloured lines on a scale its hard to wrap your head around! Everywhere you look, as far as the eye can see, you’re met with the most incredible vista the natural world has to offer.
And whilst seeing this incredible view in real life is reason enough, it also means your engagement photos will be next level (see below for how to ensure good photos of your Grand Canyon proposal.)
There’s loads of variety
Did you know the Grand Canyon isn’t all beautiful red rock? Nope, there’s so much more to it than that! Alternative spots for your Grand Canyon proposal include the sacred Havasu Falls, which are on Havasupai Indian Reservation (and should be respected as such), and The Desert View Watchtower, which you can climb to the top of!
It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity
Unless you live close to Colorado or Nevada, the chances are your trip will be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of excursion. So why not go all guns blazing and make an already unforgettable trip even more momentous?
You’re both adventurous souls
If you both crave adventure and new experiences and want the rest of your life to reflect that, tIf you both crave adventure and new experiences and want the rest of your life to reflect that, then your new chapter, that of your engagement, should follow suit. The Grand Canyon is the perfect proposal spot for thrillseekers and nature-lovers, as well as those who just like something a bit different.
It can be a total surprise
Some surprises are hard to hide, no matter how good you are at keeping secrets. However, a Grand Canyon proposal lends itself well to a secret proposal, because it’s such a no-brainer destination for your holiday. They won’t suspect a thing…
Grand Canyon proposal ideas
If you like the idea of a Grand Canyon proposal–and who wouldn’t?!–here’s some inspiration for your itinerary:
A romantic picnic spread
The Grand Canyon is at its best when bathed in the evening sun, so why not make the most of that time having a romantic picnic? There’s nowhere better to enjoy a bit of bubbly than watching the sun go down behind the ridge, and seeing the whole Canyon be bathed in warm, golden light. Stock up with champagne, chocolate, strawberries, or whatever other delicious foods you love, and wait for the perfect moment!
Hire a secret photographer to capture the moment
Perhaps you want to immortalise that light in more than just your mind; why not hire a secret photographer to capture the moment for you? That way, you can really focus on being present in the moment, knowing you’ll always have photos you can physically reach for too.
A local photographer will be able to recommend certain spots beforehand which are perfect for popping the question (though you can’t really go wrong!) Companies such as Flytographer can connect you to a photographer who specialises in that area, and will be able to advise how to spot them without letting on to your partner, and how to get into position etc. Most often, they’ll be undercover as a fellow visitor taking photos of the view; but once you give them the cue, they’ll start taking photos of you!
Once your partner has said yes, they’ll then come over and introduce themselves, taking you for a mini photoshoot to make the most of the special occasion.
Note: the Canyon has loads of specific spots that make perfect images, one of the most famous being Horseshoe Bend. However, the light is totally different on Horseshoe Bend, so the best spot to be there is around midday. Your photographer can take you through all of this, though!
A Helicopter Tour
Another way to see the Grand Canyon is by helicopter! In fact, it’s the only way to see certain parts of the Canyon, offering an unparalleled view from above. Most companies offer tours from the Canyon itself, from the North Rim to the South Rim and vice versa, or from Las Vegas, depending on the rest of your plans.
